Dr. C Vivek Lal MD FAAP
Founder, President and Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Lal is an international expert in lung biology research and microbiome research. Currently he serves as Associate Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Director, Pulmonary Microbiome Lab, UAB. Dr. Lal has over 100 original scientific publications, chapters, invited talks, abstracts in the field of lung biology/microbiome. He is the recipient of several national and international research awards and patents. He has received research funding from leading institutions including the National Institute of Health and the American Heart Association. Dr. Lal also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Urgent Care for Children, a fast-growing chain of pediatric urgent care centers in the South, headquartered in Birmingham, AL.
Andrew O'Connor MS, MBA
Chief Operating Officer
Andrew is an experienced engineer and strategic leader who is dedicated to developing technology for the life sciences. An Auburn chemical engineer, he recently completed his MBA and MS though a joint degree program of Harvard Business School (HBS) and the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, uniquely designed to give entrepreneurs and innovators a deep understanding of technology and management.
Andrew brings a range of technical and business experience in both engineering (Midori, Pulmatrix) and venture capital (Morningside Ventures, In-Q-Tel, XFund) to the ResBiotic team, where he serves as Chief Operating Officer. In this capacity, he leads ResBiotic’s partnerships and strategic initiatives.
Amit Gaggar MD, PhD
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Gaggar is an internationally renowned physician scientist and an Endowed Professor of Medicine at University of Alabama at Birmingham, AL. He is subspeciality trained and board certified in Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Gaggar currently serves as a Director of the Pulmonary Biospecimen Repository and the Cystic Fibrosis Inflammation Group at UAB. Dr. Gaggar is a leading authority on COPD, Cystic Fibrosis and other lung disease research. He has published path breaking papers in leading journals such as JCI, Nature, Science, etc. Dr. Gaggar is a member of the American Thoracic Society and American Society of Clinical Investigation. As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Gaggar advises and directs ResBiotic’s clinical activities and physiological research.
Executive Vice President, Strategy
Scott Bush is a well-known figure in the global probiotic industry and has served as the President of the International Probiotic Association.
Previously Scott was Global Probiotic Business Leader at DuPont, and its predecessors Danisco and Rhodia, where he directed probiotic activities for the dietary supplement, infant formula and food and beverage businesses. As Resiotic’s EVP of Strategy, Scott directs and advises on our partnership and production initiatives.
Teodora Nicola MD, PhD, MBA
Teodora is an experienced scientist with decades of research experience spanning cancer research, molecular biology, gene delivery, cell culture, and siRNA. From Establishing a “Alveolar DevMAP” to generate a compendium of the dynamic and regional changes in epigenetic markers, microRNA, mRNA and proteins that happen during lung alveolar septation, to in vivo and in vitro research on the effects of hypoxia on TGF-beta signaling during lung development in neonate, she brings deep experience in lung research to the ResBiotic team. She is also a graduate of the MBA for Scientists Program at UAB.
Research & Development Associate
Nancy is a detail oriented scientist, scientific writer, and project manager. After completing her Bachelors in Molecular Biology at Princeton University in 2019, she moved to Birmingham, Alabama as a Venture for America Fellow to lead Business Development at Trialtus Bioscience for two years. As R&D associate, she coordinates and documents research and development operations for ResBiotic’s flagship product. She also contributes to the development of scientific literature and IP, driving towards scientific milestones including but not limited to paper publications, technical decks, clinical trials, and regulatory filings.
Nathan is an ally of entrepreneurship and a Life Sciences Analyst who loves exploring innovative technology and seeking new investment opportunities. A 2019 graduate of Princeton University, Nathan served as an engineer and research scientist for multidisciplinary labs before moving to Birmingham as a Venture for America Fellow in 2020. In this current capacity, he conducts research and special projects to support ResBiotic’s growth.
Ivan Wasserman serves as Managing Partner of Amin Talati Wasserman and is one of the nation’s premier attorneys for health, wellness, beauty and other consumer products. Frequently cited by the media as a legal authority, Ivan helps his clients launch products and create and execute advertising campaigns that match the clinical evidence they have for their products, paying close attention to the changing rules governing internet marketing, consumer testimonials and social media.
As a Partner at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, Judd focuses his practice on representing and advising healthcare clients in connection with a variety of corporate transactions, including entity formation, mergers and acquisition, divestitures, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions. In addition, Judd brings extensive experiece advising clients on regulatory and operational matters in the areas of healthcare information technology, telemedicine, and Telehealth to his role as legal council for the Resbiotic team.
Maggie is an impact-oriented creative, equally passionate about healthcare, language, and design. A graduate of Barnard College at Columbia University, the New Sector Alliance Summer Fellowship for mission-driven leaders, and the Venture for America fellowship, she began her career in healthcare marketing at Pack Health in 2015. When not busy leading Endeavor Atlanta’s Birmingham operations, she moonlights as a creative consultant. In this capacity, she supports marketing and communications for the ResBiotic team.
